The performance was born during the full lockdown as a reflection on the human condition and its inherent sense of omnipotence. Inhabited by doubt like never before, the recent COVID pandemic has shaken and broken many certainties. Daily rituals were shattered, the vain search for a base to rely on, and the prohibition of physical contact forced everyone to change their perspective. Often during that period, people found themselves navigating in a sort of cosmic space, where they knew they couldn’t rely on any certainty, much like fallen gods who no longer know who they are, who no longer recognize themselves in any place or belief. With this choreography, Perego exposes the god-man, unrecognizable in his present, but concrete in history, made of living energy even though expired in an unidentified limbo. A powerful silent drum echoes intermittently. With every pause, the performer falls into the most enigmatic silence of a new search for himself. Totemica is a physical and emotional testimony of a man inhabiting a dispersed and fragmented sacredness, devoid of handholds. It aims to be a choreographic investigation of the sacred and natural, a map of ancestral spirituality interpreted as a starting or return point for human chimerae.
