The International Festival of Contemporary Dance INTERPLAY/08‚ after the lucky preview with the choreographic meetings of network Dance Roads on February‚ come back in the month of May with various events in the Fonderie Limone Theatre‚ in Moncalieri‚ but also in urban places around of the city with Metropolitans Blitz.
The artists involved are choreographers from France‚ Israel‚ Finland‚ Switzerland‚ Japan and of course from Italy. The performances have been selected through the cooperation with others Festivals and Network activated by Associazione Mosaico from the end of 2006.

This years the festival closed with a seminar focused on the theme of The contemporary dance and show: media‚ music and theatre: languages fusion. It was organized in collaboration with the Università degli Studi di Torino‚ at the Laboratorio Multimediale Guido Quazza.
They have been invited many professionals such as: Maurizia Settembri artistic director of the festival Fabbrica Europa − Firenze‚ Paolo Ruffini − Roma‚ Selina Bassini co–director of the festival Ammutinamneti and Lavori in Pelle − Ravenna and coordinator of the network ANTICORPI XL‚ and Catherine Dunoyer artistic director of the festival Danse a Lille ‚ Les Repérages − Lille and director of the CDC di Roubaix Nord ( Fr)
On 16th May ‚ the Interplay/08 Festival has opened with two performances in a urban place‚ Vittorio Veneto Square. The first performance has been by an Italian choreographer‚ Daniela Paci. She presented “Vocecorpobattito” by L’Artimista Company. And the second performance has been presented by the Japanese Hiroaki Umeda.
On 20th May‚ two foreign companies presented their performances at the Fonderie Limone Theatre: the French Company Artopie with the spectacle “Petite Mort” (the choreography is by Cristina Santucci‚ she is Italian‚ she studied in the U.S.A‚ but she lives and works in Lille‚ and by Loic Salliot). This performance was selected during Les Rèperages Festival of Lille on March 2007.
The other Company is the Swiss Collectif Utilitè Publique‚ founded in 2003 by Karine Grasset‚ Nicholas Pettit and Corinne Rochet. The company presented the spectacle “Fizz” and the choreography is by Corinne Rochet. This performance was selected during the B−Motion Bassano Body Motion Festival (Festival Net in Artistic Sharing).
On 21th May the evening was dedicated to Yasmeen Godder‚ a young Israelian choreographer‚ that is considered one of the most original expression in the new universe of independent international dance. Yasmeen Godder lives and works between Israel and New York‚ guest in very important dance and theatre Festivals. She presented the performance “Sudden Birds”‚ that was guest performance also in the Reggio Emilia dance season‚ on May 2008. In the 2007 Yasmeen Godder enchanted all the audience with the performance “I feel funny today”‚ winner of the NY Dance and Performance Bessie Award in 2001.
On 22th May ‚ some choreographers that participated in Lavori in Pelle Festival (Alfonsine‚ Ravenna‚ on July 2007) presented their performance. In 2008 the Lavori in Pelle Festival was organized in collaboration with the partners of the Anticorpi XL net (in which Interplay represents our region). The best performances are going around Italy as guest in the festival organized by partners of this net.
For the evening Interplay/08 chooses three companies. The MC/F Company from Turin‚ managed by Maria Cristina Fontanelle‚ presented the performance “Soli come Petunie in un vaso”. (Performers Alfredo Zinola and Piergiorgio Milano).
The second choreographer has been Annika Pannitto‚ from Molise‚ participant as Italian representative at Les Rèperages Festival of Lille on March 2008‚ with the performance “Solitudo/011”.
Last but not least‚ the duo Laura Scudella and Yuri Roverato‚ from Veneto. They presented “L’Incontro”‚ a very strong and moving performance. Laura Scudella‚ a very skilful dancer‚ has studied with national and international dance teachers as Dieter Heitkamp‚ Urs Stauffer‚ Antony Arwood‚ Jess Curtis‚ Stephanie Maher‚ Monica Francia‚ Alito Alessi‚ Laura Banfi e Carolyn Carlson. She collaborated with Abbondanza−Bertoni Company and with Secondo Taglio. Yuri Roverato is seriously affected from tetraparesi spastic from birth‚ but he has always worked on body movement and he has studied martial technique and Danceability. From 2001 he teaches Danceability. Both of them took part in the opening ceremony of the Paraolimpic Winter Games in Turin (2006).
On 23th May‚ the last evening at the Fonderie Limone Theatre‚ guests has been two Italian choreographers: Teodora Castellucci‚ the young Romeo’s daughter – Societas Raffaello Sanzio Company – with the performance “A Elle Vide”‚ winner of the GD’A jury’s special award in 2007. She presented it as preview at the Uovo Festival (Milano) organized by Umberto Angelini.
Daniele Albanese‚ from Parma‚ with the performance “Tiqqun – nemmeno l’allodola vede l’aperto”‚ presented at the Teatro Comunale of Ferrara on December (Anticorpi XL project) and at Natura dei Teatri Festival (Lenz−Parma). Daniele Albanese graduated at the European Dance Development Centre‚ in Arnhem (Holland)‚ in 1997‚ and he studied with numerous dance teachers. He worked with: Peter Pleyer‚ Tony Thatcher‚ Charlotte Zerbey‚ Martin Butler‚ Jennifer Lacey‚ Nigel Charnock‚ Ariella Vidach and Virgilio Sieni‚ at home and abroad.
The third guest choreographer of the evening is the Finnish Inari Salmivaara. She presented the evocative and extremely contemporary performance “4 On Behalf of a Whole”‚ which was selected during Les Rèperages Festival of Lille‚ on March 2007. This performance won the first award in the festival dedicated to new choreography‚ by Krisztina de Chatel‚ on May 2006. In 2004‚ she received the Prince Bernhard culture foundation’s “Theater Opracht” for young actors‚ and she realized the performance “Comedy for particular universes”‚ that won the Spring Dance/Preview‚ in 2006.
On 25th May the Festival Interplay/08 ended. This is the third year that the last meeting is placed in the new performing room of Associazione Mosaico‚ in Cavoretto. Guests has been the choreographers of the Tecnologia Filosofica Company‚ Aldo Torta and Stefano Botti‚ both from Turin. They are performing “YY” (Inside/off project).
Besides the choreographer/performer Sonia Brunelli‚ from Molise‚ by Fies Factory One Company‚ presented the performance “NN”‚ also presented at the Dro Festival‚ on summer 2007‚ and in the programme of RED‚ Reggio Emilia Danza‚ on May 2008. In 2005 she won the second award of the Premio Internazionale della Performance‚ Galleria Civica d’Arte Contemporanea di Trento. From 2000 she is “coroginnasta” of the Stoa‚ the School of Dance and Philosophy‚ founded by Societas Raffaello Sanzio Company‚ in Cesena. From 2002 she works with Egum Teatro Company of Siena.
Finally Paola Bianchi from Turin presented “Homos Apologia dell’Enantios”‚ an inusual performance with 13 artists. It’s a performance about homologation that needs public places full of people‚ based on the confusion among performers and audience.
Audience training
Last year the festival has also launched 2 new appointments‚ wich the aim is the trainig organized in collaboration with the CRUD directed by the prof. Alessandro Pontremoli: the writing laboratory addressed to DAMS Students‚ lead by the association Altre Velocità‚ during all the priod of the festival and a conference at the University with many wellknown critics‚ artistic director and professionals in the field of the contemporary dance and arts.
